More Lent Resources

A parishioner has recommended this site. It has some Lent resources and much else to think about.

Papal Visit Petition

You may be aware that secularist groups are creating petitions on-line and elsewhere against the visit by Pope Benedict this autumn. You may like to use this link to help counter this by signing an on-line petition in support of the visit.

Fairtrade Fortnight - The Big Brew

As part of Fairtrade Fortnight, you are invited to 'The Big Brew" at the presbytery on Saturday this week, 27th February, any time between 11am and 4pm.

Another idea for Lent - The "Joy Jar"

A kind parishioner sent me this suggestion, which is well worth sharing:
Make a joy jar for yourself by taking an empty glass jar, decorating it, and keeping it in a place where you spend a lot of time. When something good or unexpected happens, write it on a scrap of paper and drop it in the jar. When you're having a bad day, tip out your jar and read your slips of paper. You will literally be able to count your blessings!
Don't forget to thank God for them.

You will see from the newsletter that we are having a collection (and cake stall!) for the devastated country of Haiti this weekend. It was recently drawn to my attention that Haiti is still in debt to the rich world with the consequent interest repayments. More here.

Our bishops are in Rome

You may know that our bishops are called to Rome, ad limina apostolorum, to the threshold of the apostles, roughly every five years.

There are three main parts of the ad limina visit:
- The pilgrimage to, and veneration of, the tombs of the Apostles Peter and Paul
- A personal meeting with the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI
- Meeting and conversations with the various departments of the Roman Curia (the administrative offices of the Holy See)
The bishops of England & Wales are in Rome for their five-yearly visit at present. Please keep them in your prayers.

You can read more about this here, and find the full text of the Pope's address to the bishops either from the page the previous link takes you to, or here.
