Providing water for those who lack it has been very much in our thoughts this Lent. This video may encourage us in our thinking, praying, and giving.

Our Lent Project

Instead of tea and coffee we served bread and soup after Mass this morning as part of our Lent drive to raise funds for our Bamenda Water Project in Cameroon. This and other donations this weekend brought in another £250. We are now very near the £1,000 mark for Lent, and I am sure that we will pass this target next weekend. Some of our young people washed cars to raise money for the same cause as part of St Clare's School involvement in the project. Well done and thank you to everyone!

Flame National Youth Conference

Some of our young people attended the Flame National Youth Conference at the Wembley Arena yesterday. They had a wonderful time. They met the Archbishop of Westminster while they were there.

Adoration & Confession

This evening St Wilfrid's Church will be open from 6.30pm until 8.00pm. The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed throughout this time, and Benediction will be given at 8. Father Colin and visiting priests will be available to welcome you and to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation with you.

I got the idea for doing this, rather than a Reconciliation Service, this Lent after hearing of an initiative from the Diocese of Lancaster called 'The Light is On For You.' The Bishop of Lancaster has asked that all the Churches in his diocese should be open on Wednesday evenings during Lent. and the priest available for confessions. It is well worth visiting the above link for resources to help us think about the Sacrament of Reconciliation more deeply, and the video below may help our reflection, too.

We are doing it just for one Wednesday. Let's make it a special occasion of adoration and reconciliation.

Pastoral Letter on Marriage

This weekend we receive a Letter from Archbishops Vincent Nichols and Peter Smith on behalf of the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales. It is a statement of our Catholic faith about marriage and issued in the light of the forthcoming consultation by the Government on changing the legal definition of marriage. In the light of this letter, you are asked to consider signing the Coalition for Marriage’s online petition which can be found at www.C4M.org.uk. It reads:
“I support the legal definition of marriage which is the voluntary union for life of one man and one woman to the exclusion of all others. I oppose any attempt to redefine it.”
The Archbishops also say that after Easter there will be a more detailed leaflet on the Government’s consultation itself, for distribution in parishes, to assist Catholics in making their own response to the consultation.

School Transport - ePetition - reminder

It is good to see how many St Wilfrid's parishioners have signed the epetition about school transport. Thank you. We can still do with more. Any interested adult may sign, not just parents of students at faith schools.

You are Living Stones

This weekend, we have heard the Bishop's Pastoral Letter and received a handout.

Both are about, 'You are Living Stones,' a Diocesan Consultation on Parish Renewal.

You can read any of the documents by clicking the links above.

Please try to be there for the meeting after Mass next Sunday: details are in the newsletter. This will be part of the process to prepare our parish response to the consultation.

Don't forget the CAFOD Lent Fast day this Friday.
This year the Government is matching all giving to CAFOD pound for pound. Please make the most of this opportunity by being especially generous with your offerings to CAFOD this coming weekend.

Bamenda Project at St Clare's

The children from St Clare's School are joining in our parish Lent project to raise funds for the Bamenda Water Project in Cameroon. This letter to parents will tell you how they are setting about it.
